- GERYON is presented at EENA Conference 2014
03 April, 2014GERYON project is presented at annual EENA Conference 2014 by project coordinator University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU during 02 -04 April 2014 in Warsaw, Poland. The EENA Conference 2014 is aimed to bring together key stakeholders in the emergency services, public authorities and industry representatives to showcase best practices.
Two videos and a number of leaflets regarding the GERYON project are presented at the GERYON stand. One video shows how citizens can share enriched information with the PSAPs and emergency bodies while the other demonstrates an overview of the GERYON project. The leaflets mainly cover both general and technical aspects of emergency communication systems. - GERYON will be presented at CeBit 2014
05 March, 2014GERYON will be presented by consortium member VIOTECH @ CeBit 2014. More info about this event can be found here
- GERYON establishes liaisons with three EU FP7 projects
22 January, 2014With the aim of collaborating with world class researchers and providing better solutions for future emergency communication systems, the GERYON team establishes liaisons with three other EU FP7 projects: FREESIC, HIT-GATE and PPDR-TC.
FREESIC project creates a solution that will allow highly secure and cost effective interoperability between communication infrastructures over the entire Europe. The project has been inspired by legal, organizational and operational barriers the consortium has encountered during its previous activities. Major activity to provide interoperability for end users was undertaken in the previous FP7 research project Secricom. This consortium of 9 partners and 5 associated partners is well qualified to tackle challenges in FREESIC project.
The HIT-GATE (Heterogeneous Interoperable Transportable GATEway for First-Responders) Consortium goal is to develop a solution to communications interoperability between First-Responder networks, including those involving more than one nation. It will be based on a generic gateway that allows communications across networks currently used by First Responders in Europe especially during crisis events. Nowadays PSC (Public Safety Communication) systems use a large number of different and incompatible technologies therefore compromising or even disabling efficient coordination of combined operations (such as cross-border or crisis management when many services are involved). A solution developed by HIT-GATE project (www.hit-gate.eu) is intended to be used by First Responders and public safety entities including PPDR ones. The IMS Core Network Subsystem reference architecture (TISPAN) is selected as a basic architectural concept for HIT-GATE to maintain compatibility with next generation networks. Cross-Network Services will be able to handle at least analog PMR, TETRA, TETRAPOL and GSM radios.
PPDR-TC project (Public Protection and Disaster Relief - Transformation Center) is a 7th Framework programme project implemented by 10 partners. PPDR-TC will provide the foundation for the evolution of mission critical communications. The project focuses on specifying an interoperable, secure and resilient voice and data communications architecture, tailored specifically for the needs of the PPDR community. PPDR-TC addresses both mission critical and non-mission critical situations in an integrated and uniform way. The goal of the project is to enable ubiquitous secure communications over dedicated and commercial networks, investigate and propose optimal scenarios to merge commercial broadband infrastructure with current PPDR systems.
- GERYON workshop: International Workshop on Emergency Telecommunications Systems (ETS 2013)
12 September, 2013With the aim of collaborating with other researchers in the emergency communication field and also providing an opportunity to present some initial GERYON results, an International workshop on Emergency Telecommunication Systems 2013 (ETS 2013) was organised by the consortium. The ETS 2013 workshop was held on the 12 September 2020 in Wrexham, North Wales in the UK in collaboration with the Fifth International Conference on Internet Technologies & Applications (ITA13) conference. 7 presentations were given in the workshop by researchers from Europe and North America. Based upon these presentations, interesting discussions on the future emergency telecommunication systems (e.g. Next Generation 9-1-1 and Next Generation 112) were formed between the presenters and audience.
- GERYON successfully presented at British APCO 2013 Exhibition
29-30 April, 2013GERYON project went public once again at British APCO (BAPCO) 2013 Exhibition. The main audience of the BAPCO 2013 event were the public safety communication stakeholders. The GERYON stand presented a video, three posters and three live demonstrations. The video demonstrates the project overview, partners and objectives. The three posters illustrate the project background, the interoperability solution between TETRA and LTE for next generation emergency services and the main components of the GERYON system respectively. The three live demonstrations include Real-time call/text-message between a smartphone (from the exhibition site, Manchester, UK) to a TETRA terminal (in Bilbao, Spain), Red button service to PSAP (shown on a tablet) with location information and both basic and enhanced GERYON services using mobile phones via IMS such as video call, picture transmission and real-time message exchange. During the exhibition, many people visited the GERYON stand: interesting discussions about the project were formed and ideas on future emergency services were exchanged between the visitors and the GERYON exhibitors. Also, visitors were really impressed with the GERYON live demos and positive feedbacks were provided.
